Coupeville and Fort Ebey

So much to be thankful for!
The visit with my folks was so sweet, and it is such a joy
to look at pictures of our time together and think about their trip.
After stopping at Deception Pass, we headed down Widbey Island to the small,
quaint town of Coupeville.... we walked out on the pier and had
some coffee and hot chocolate, as the day was pretty cool and rainy.
We then had fun just window shopping and enjoying the beautiful
waterfront, darling atmosphere, and gorgeous hanging baskets
that are so common in the northwest!!
And by the time we arrived at Fort Ebey, the skies were beginning to clear!
This was such a lovely setting, and so much fun
to get out and run through the fields of grass.
Ellie and I felt like we were on Prince Edward's Island,
and over the hill was Anne's Green Gables :)
As you can see from the picture below, the boys especially loved
imagining what it would have looked like as a military base.
Evidently the fort was never needed, which I guess we can be thankful for!
There was quite the drop-off here.... a tad bit nerve wracking!!
I'm learning to roll with the punches when it comes to group pictures....
Who wants to just look at smiling statues all the time?!
Isn't a picture like this much more interesting?!
Kids are gonna be kids, and I desperately want to remember and ENJOY
their care-free, trusting spirits.... and Abby sure has spirit :)

My mom expressed while she was here, how fleeting these days are.
The kids are going to all be grown soon, and so often we wish time would stop.
We both fight the emotion of sadness and in a way, loss.
My mom and dad don't have the privilege of seeing their grandchildren each day...
or even each week.... or even each month.
I don't have the privilege of dropping my kids off at their house,
or feeling the comfort of my mom's kitchen.
We have to be very intentional about relationship-building.
Lots of letters, e-mails, and phone calls across the miles!

I never would have dreamed, in a thousand years, that the Lord would
have us raise our children a plane ride away from my folks.
But He did.
And my heart aches.
His ways are not our ways.
But they are good.
They are for His glory.
And we trust Him.

However, I can say with confidence, that neither me or my parents,
would want to be ANYWHERE outside of our Heavenly Father's perfect plan for our lives.
We are growing and benefiting from blessings that we never
would have experienced, had we lived in the same town.
(Not to mention, we LOVE the northwest!!)
And for that I am so thankful.

Blogging is a way for me to remember and enjoy.....
and help my family to remember and enjoy.....
and stay connected!!

a rainy day at Deception Pass

We had a wonderful visit with my folks.
The weather man was actually right for once....
and we had beautiful northwest days for a lot of the week.
Of course the one day we were going to go sight-seeing was rainy....
but that didn't dampen our mood and we still had a
splendid time together!
Deception Pass is one of our family's favorite places.
We have numerous pictures, over the years,
of us all around this particular large piece of driftwood.
It's the first time, though, that we've had Nannie in the picture!!
Num Num and Papa met us at the beach.... as this is a favorite spot for them as well!
The grand-dads stayed under the picnic shelter, deep in conversation.
The lighting wasn't so good in that direction, so I'm sorry I have no pictures of them.
Num Num wanted a shot with the kids for her yearly picture...
I thought it turned out so cute!
Lots of being together, laughing, and playing took place
along with a subway lunch....
After our time here, we drove my folks on down Widbey Island.
It sure is beautiful... even in the rain!!
We stopped in Coopville (I'll share those pics in another post)
and then at Ft. Eby. By then the clouds had somewhat parted,
and for our trip home we saw some blue skies!

My dad purchased me the coolest map of Widbey Island.
We hope to have it framed for future guests to enjoy
and have a better understanding of the beautiful place we live in!!
Thanks Mom and Dad for the FABULOUS time!!

sweet contentment.
merry-go-round.
those were some fine horses.
if only we had a real one.
that poor mama.
look at those faces.
watching the show with nannie
definitely man enough to wear pink.
 all. tired. out.

{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A
simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

getting my hopes up

I'm sad to say, I don't trust the weather man.
I remember moving to San Diego, and for the first 6 months,
we literally did not see a drop of rain.
I remember being so frustrated at the same weather....
clear, blue skies!
(The weather men in San Diego seemed to have no problems with their predictions!!)
Well, I'm missin' those blue skies now, and SOOO appreciate the sun.
I remember when we were visiting the northwest last summer,
I could not get over how everyone was in their bathing suits
.... in their front yard!

Now I understand why, and am tempted to do the same thing when the sun is out :)
LIKE TODAY!!
We had BEAUTIFUL, clear, blue skies.... and are suppose to the rest of the week.
I'll believe it when it happens, but O how I hope my folks, who are coming tomorrow,
will get to experience some of this Northwest wonder....
I'm ALWAYS amazed at how big Mt. Rainer is when it shows itself....
and boy that mountain does not come out often!
I don't think our guests last week saw it once, though a number of days
were beautiful. That haze close to the horizon often still covers it.
Dear Weatherman,
Please, O please, could you be right for once??

These are a few pictures from our sweet family
celebration today....
Drew, you're growing up! You are such a blessing to our family.
Thank you for your smile, your big hugs, your back-scratches,
your help in the kitchen, and your desire to please and honor the Lord!
We rejoice that you are God's child, and understand what Christ has done for you.
We are so encouraged to see signs of the Holy Spirit working in your life,
convicting you of sin and helping you to fight that sin.
Press on in the fight!! Don't let sin rule you.
You have all you need for life and godliness:

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.
Put on the whole armor of God,
that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood,
but against the rulers, against the authorities,
against the cosmic powers over this present darkness,
against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places."
Ephesians 6:10-12

Happy Birthday Dear Son!!
