catching up ~ August 20-28, 2014
Just wanting to document this trip last summer when my Mom and Dad came from Georgia to visit.
It's always a joy to have them come see us, to let them get glimpses of our life here,
and to be a part of it. This particular day, we met some friends at the waterfront
close to us in Edmonds.
This was some of the fun that happened in the back yard while they were here:
We finished picking the apples off the tree and the kids made something yummy
with Nannie. Also one of the days they were here, we invited the kids in the neighborhood
over for a "back yard Bible club". This was the second summer my mom had initiated
this and I think it has become a tradition! They listened to a story, played games, and had a snack.
My mom is a kid magnet. The neighborhood kids look forward to her coming!
Drew happened to get to fly for the first time while my dad was here.
The Civil Air Patrol (which is a GREAT program) lets cadets fly
throughout the year .... FREE! This was Drew's first time signing up, and the boy he
signed up with backed out.... so he was alone!! He actually got to fly the plane.
The picture below is the gentleman who flew with Drew.
It was really sweet because Dad has acquired a love for flying himself, over
the last few years, and in fact has recently gotten his pilot's license.
(I'm SO proud of him!!)
He had flown himself earlier in the visit at a different local field.
SO, Dad got to take Drew to his first CAP flight. He also gave Drew his first flight "log book."
I think the timing of it all was such a gift from the Lord!!
While Drew was flying, Dad looked around the gift shop at Pain Field.
He happened upon this signed, framed copy (at a very reasonable price!!)
of a painting depicting one of his favorite World War II stories about a pilot named Robert Johnson.
The print is titled "Not My Turn to Die" and was painted by an artist named Jim Laurier.
Dad knew he had to buy it and bring it back to Georgia.
Here he is telling Drew the incredible story.
